New Colours in Our Favourite Qing Bases and Much More as the Christmas Countdown Begins!
With 10 shopping days until Christmas, our minds are on our favourite things, like Qing’s incredibly soft bases, sweet haberdashery treats, gorgeous textile magazines, and lovely opportunities to get together and make things. We’ve also extended our opening hours to 11am to 6pm on all our normal days of operation before Christmas Eve. There’s more info about our opening times over the holiday season at the end of this post.
Long-time blog readers will know that one of our favourite deliveries to receive is any shipment from Qing. This week’s arrival was extra special, with a slew of fantastic new colours in dreamy Veranita, Silk Mohair, and Melted Baby Suri. Scrumptious new colours like “Biscuit” and “Peach Meringue” join evocative “Fairy Dust” and “Snapdragon” in a group of brand new hues that we are just dying to get on our needles. Veranita is a lace weight yarn that is perfect for all kinds of projects and is especially good as a substitute for those who can’t wear mohair. Silk Mohair is a lovely, versatile yarn that can be knit alone for a super warm alternative to chunky knits or held double with another yarn for a fantastic halo effect. Melted Baby Suri is the smooshiest yarn and knits up beautifully, especially in the free Melted Suri Beanie pattern by our very own Juliet Jung!
The latest issue of Selvedge addresses the themes of waste and abundance while celebrating the cultural heritage and meaning of craft, from methods of reducing waste in landfill through upcycling to the beauty and integrity of uncut cloth and its meaningful uses around the world. Plus, there’s an interview with Celia Pym, whose incredible visible darning work has been a mainstay of Loop classes and adorns the well-loved sofa cushions in our shop. Selvedge is such a special magazine about craft in all its guises and it’s especially great this time of year when you feel like you really have some time to sit down and absorb it.
We still have a few places left for our morning Olivia Mouse PicaPau Amigurumi Toy Crochet Class with Yanina on Saturday 27 January! We are so honoured to have Yan visiting us to teach this class from Argentina. We have admired her work for so long and we’ve always loved having her incredible books, Animal Friends of Pica Pau, Pica Pau 2 and Pica Pau 3, in the shop. The Olivia Mouse class is suited to beginner and intermediate crocheters, so if you’ve mastered the basics we would love to have you! Workshop participants will receive a kit with everything you need to make Olivia except a 2.5-3mm crochet hook. See you there!

Holiday Hours and Last Posting Dates
We’re excited to welcome you to our extend opening hours of 11am to 6pm (opening half an hour earlier and closing half an hour later) from today through Sunday 17 December and from Wednesday 20 December to Saturday 23 December. We’ll be closed from 24 to 28 December, open 29 and 30 December, and then closed again for New Year. There are still a few days to order online for delivery by Royal Mail before Christmas in the UK but for international shipping you’ll now need to choose DHL!
