Quince & Co. Owl

Quince & Co. Owl

Quince & Co Owl at Loop, London. www.loopknitlounge.comLoop is proud to be the European flagship shop for Quince & Co. and  just when we think we couldn’t love their yarns any more, along comes Owl. Lofty and light with a slight rustic feel, Owl is a cozy hug of alpaca and wool.

Natural blends take centre stage with a selection from dark tweeds to snowy skies. When over dyed, these natural shades provide the heathered base of the pastel and jewel toned colours.

A blend of wool and alpaca means a sturdy base with a soft halo, ideal for colourwork as the fuzz of alpaca fills any gaps caused by oddities in tension. Plus, Owl is woolen spun, meaning the natural hollow structure of alpaca fibre is persevered thus maintaining it’s loft and bounce. Blocking transforms the yarn beautifully, allowing the fibre to bloom and create a relaxed and drapey fabric.

Now you’ve fallen for the yarn, you’ll be glad to know there is a whole host of patterns! Owl features in Quince & Co.’s first printed publication Home, used for a snug shawl/blanket and an oversized cardigan

Hannah Fettig (aka Knitbot) chose Owl as it was the ideal yarn for her colourwork garments in Knitbot Yoked. Inspired by the softer shades, ‘their vintage feel was a natural fit for the collection.’

Quince & Co. also have an expertly designed selection of accessories to compliment Owl. These designs have just been added to our online shop and are available as PDF’s – Araminta, Falme, Wending, Sherwood Mitts and Fern.

Melanie Berg, who designed Wintermute for Loop, has collaborated with Quince to create a stunning collection using the natural shades of Owl. Linook, Rikochan, Taine, Talamu and Vouvray show the versatile beauty of a classic neutral shade. If you fancy a pop of colour it’s easy to pair natural colours with the dyed shades with Owl as they compliment each other well!

  1. I am dreaming of Quince and Co. Their yarn is featured everywhere! I love the color “Elf”. Maybe because it is a cold dreary day here in New Jersey. I have my eyes on the shaw Vouvray…

  2. It would have to be the Nori cardi in Hemlock. Not very spring-like, but dare I say browsing all this Owl has me looking forward to autumn…

  3. Love the Maude cardigan, love the slouchy style to it and I love the colour Chamomile such a gorgeous spring green.

  4. Such a wonderful opportunity. I wouldn’t be able to chose only one color. All of them are absolutely gorgeous.
I’m in love with Hannah Fettig’s design, so I would probably choose one of hers, but I also love Fern and Wending.

  5. A beautiful yarn :-) I really love the knitbod yoked&would love to knit a yoked sweater. I’ve recently started knitting colourways&the story behind the collection is lovely my mum was my inspiration for knitting. The colours are stunning but I think a yoke done in acacia would be beautiful xx

  6. Acacia and Araminta the perfect combination I think. Have to go to the shop and have a look at Owl properly I have a feeling that the photos don’t do justice

  7. From the moment I laid my eyes on it, Nori was the one. As far as the colour my goodness that is a hard one, Huckleberry is at the top of the list though (Cielo was a close second though).

  8. I really love Elf, and I’d use it to knit up the Talamu shawl with bright stripes of Rosebay running through it.

  9. I would love to knit Araminta in Cielo :) Is it such a pretty pattern and the yarn looks so soft for a cowl. The perfect combination!

  10. For our climate here in Australia I think the ‘sandy’ Simple tee in Albertine would be perfect! Love all the colours so hard to choose……fingers crossed!

  11. My favorite color is Albertine 306 and the pattern I like is Vouvray by Melanie Berg. Thanks for the chance to win.
    Lmecoll on Ravelry

  12. Araminta would be the pattern I woul like to choose and the colour cinnamon is one that catches my eye. Not very summery but I tend to knit in the summer for winter and vice versa.

  13. Having my first grandchild and parents don’t want to know what it will be ahead of time. So I’ve been knitting in earth tones. I love Acacia and the More better Baby Sock pattern.

  14. So many lovely colours, I picked one, then picked again and again, finding it nearly impossible to choose just one favourite colour I would choose ‘Canyon’ and would love to knit this with the ‘Araminta’ to wear with my favourite duck egg blue coat.

  15. It has to be sokoke, a soft snuggly cardi , oh and a throw and maybe some cushions. A beautiful colour that evokes sweet memories of childhood and a favourite aunts knitted love.

  16. My favourites here are the neutrals! I love how rustic and soft they look. Albertine would be my top choice, although they’re all stunning!

  17. I would knit the Wending pattern using the Acacia colour way. I love the undulating pattern on the cowl and the colour of Acacia reminds me of the sea so the two seem to go together perfectly.

  18. I would like to knit Sandy in Canyon. Love both. All the yarn colors are beautiful. I also would like to knit the hat and mittens in the same color.

  19. I can’t resist a beautiful top down pullover and I’ve been admiring the knitbot yoked collection since it was published my all time favourite is the Willard fair isle pullover but I think I’d pick Cielo and brighten it up with a spring sky blue. :D x

  20. I would love to knit Edith in Berent’s Sea. (very hard to pick one colour – they’re all gorgeous.)

  21. Oh my goodness how do you manage to choose just one colorway, maybe Huckleberry.
Jolene is the pattern I would love to knit.

  22. The fair isle jumper would be a good beginning on my learning fair isle patterns. I would use cinnamon with the zig zag in elf.
I live on the coast of Skye and always need warm cosy jumpers!

  23. I have never tried any of Quince Co wonderful wools. I keep admiring the designed garments and accessories and could image knitting and wearing most of them. Sadly, it is not easy to save up for a 9 or 10 balls to make myself a gorgeous garment when I don’t want to skip on my boys’ nutrition and they constantly need new shoes or trousers. But I could definitely see myself knitting the cute little Sherwood Mitts in the Chamomile shade. They would be the perfect thing on chilly mornings when doing the school run. The colour looks a bit yellow and a bit green – fresh spring shade of new buds and mowed grass.

  24. I love Kaye’s Cardigan… I would probably want to make it with the main color being Barents Sea.

  25. The simple T Sandy in that lovely inky blue Huckleberry; something to pull on quickly when the wind picks up at the seaside!

  26. I like the Willard Fair Isle Pullover and my favorite color is Elf. I like light neutral colors and I’m very partial to cream and white.

  27. Cranberry is the one for me – I’m on a health drive so this is the only one for me.

    Pretty please :-)

  28. The Sokoke color is drawing me to it, and I’m thinking probably it would be a great cowl. And y’all do have some lovely cowl patterns!

I’ve been looking at Melanie Berg’s patterns in Ravelry for some time. It was great to see some in this post.

  29. I’d totally choose hannah fettig’s knitbot joked pattern and i think my favourite yarn colour is huckleberry! So very lovely!

  30. I’d love to make Sandy using Elf or cerulean – it’s so hard to choose! I’ve knitted with alpaca wool before and it’s so beautifully easy to work with.

  31. I am intrigued by the fiber blend of Owl. Falme would look great in cerulean, and it would make my blue eyes shine brightly!

  32. I love the acacia colour and think a wending pattern would suit well. The owl looks fanatasic in all colours. Thanks for the lovely posts I look forward to them

  33. All the colours are so gorgeous, but I would dearly love to make Hannah Fettig’s Kaye’s Cardigan with Papuan as the main colour.

  34. Loving everything, but I really like the Maude, a grandpa style slouchy cardigan by Carrie Bostick Hodge,in Yucca, its a color for all seasons, where I live in Northern Ohio ,this wonderful sweater will keep me toasty and comfy.Thank you or a chance to enter your giveaway.

  35. What scrumptious fiber! I’d love to try the Willard beret and mitt patterns in Canyon and Elf but that Wending scarf is pretty tempting, and Araminta is gorgeous… and that is how we become addicted!

  36. Have loved Maude for a long time. Maude would be spectacular in Huckleberry! My favorite color way is always grey, but Maude begs for a color!

  37. All the colours are gorgeous and work so well together. Particularly like Cielo, which would look great knitted into the Azalea camisole top for the spring sunshine.

  38. Chamomile is such a lovely colour, a forest hat maybe?
I keep dreaming and hope I can visit loop one again in real life!

  39. I’ve fallen in love with Kaye’s cardigan – love the spotty bits on it. All the colours of owl look great, I like its slightly faded tweedy look – but my favourite to knit Kaye in would have to be acacia (green).

  40. I love the colourway huckleberry and would knit sandy short sleeve tunic. I think it would be a wardrobe staple xx

  41. I would knit Sandy – because its so versatile, in Abyssinain (what doesn’t grey go with?!!!!)

  42. I love the raspberry colour but would love to knit Thaine in elf so that would be my choice. I would be the envy of my friends at the weekly Knit and Natter group I attend

  43. I love the raspberry colour but would love to knit Taine in elf so that would be my choice. I would be the envy of my friends at the weekly Knit and Natter group I attend

  44. I would love to knit Jolene in Cielo. I love its fresh Spring and Summer sky blue and I can imagine Jolene’s waterfall fronts swirling in the breeze.

  45. I’d love to be “Wending” my way in chamomile. A lovely burst of colour for the coming cooler weather here in South OZ!

  46. Amethyst is a gorgeous colourway! It jumps right off the web page. Buy me! Buy me! Can you hear it calling you too?
The pattern that I would be most likely to put in my “to knit” list…Taine…loving them both! Buy us! Buy us! Oh I’d better turn my iPad off now before I get myself into trouble…

  47. I love the colour of canyon, pattern wise Nori is gorgeous but I also think Willard is a beauty. Also a Bergen Cowl by Carrie Bostick Hoge in Owl would be a winner too. Owl cowl! Thanks Loop.

  48. I am drawn to Amethyst and Canyon, though Acacia is also a contender – one neutral would probably have to be included too !
The Birdie cardigan is a delightfully fresh ‘take’ on colour knitting, and I love to knit yoked sweaters. This pattern reminds me of holidays by the sea with sunshine and soft breezes, so maybe Acacia ……….. or possibly one of the others….I really can’t decide.
