Socks Galore this Spring at Loop!

Socks Galore this Spring at Loop!

This spring we’re welcoming Holger Auffenberg to Loop to teach two fabulous classes all about socks, one of the most wearable and rewarding wardrobe items to knit. Read on for all the details!

Like so many of us, Holger was taught to knit by his grandmother. Since 2007 he has been honing his craft, focusing on the technical intricacies of knitting and on combining his two-plus decades working in classic men’s tailoring with the techniques of knitting. And of course, his focus has been on socks. Holger is coming to Loop in April, May, and June to share all he’s discovered in his years of sock development to help you become the best sock knitter you can be.

Toe Up Socks at Loop London
Learn all you need to know to get started knitting socks

First, Holger will host a three-part series on The Basics of Sock Knitting on three consecutive Saturdays: 27 April, 5 May, and 11 May. If you’re an intermediate or confident beginner knitter who wants to start knitting socks but feel intimidated by all the different technical aspects and sizing, this is the class for you. This class will teach all the core skills of sock knitting, help you learn how to tailor patterns for your or your loved ones’ particular foot, and even introduce some of the fun things you can do beyond the basics.

In June, Holger will return to teach a Sock Knitting Masterclass for those who have been knitting socks comfortably for some time but still want to dig deeper into the technique and perfect different elements of their knits. Maybe you want to figure out why a particular element of your socks never seems to come out right, or learn a new way to approach certain aspects of the sock. Maybe you even want to find out how to design your own sock patterns from scratch. The day-long workshop will cover a variety of sock techniques, styles, and constructions but it’s also intended to be an interactive session tailored to meet the needs of the group, so make sure to come with questions!

Dimond Laine/Laines (Vi)Laines

Dimond Laine and Laines Vilaines are a match made in yarn heaven!

We’ve made more fabulous Limited Edition Yarn Bundles combining a skein of Dimond Laine Elmer Fingering yarn in our special, just-for-Loop, limited edition colour ‘Egg’ and a boulette of Laines Vilaines Silk Mohair in ‘Seducing Mr. Freeze’. This very special bundle sold out super quickly when we fist introduced it so we figured you all were fans! These colours and yarns are just so scrumptious together. We were thinking of Petite Knit’s Sophie Scarf when we put it together, but honestly any one-skein project would absolutely stun in this combo.

Wildwood by Mette Mehlsen

More Wildwood Kits have just arrived from Mette Mehlsen! Everything about this crochet masterpiece is totally stunning. Mette’s unparalleled plant-dyed wool is the perfect material with which to create the lovely granny squares that make up this scarf. There’s so much room for improvisation as well, as you can let your imagination run free with different combinations of the 25 balls of yarn you’ll receive with your kit. We’ve just had a delivery of the ‘Honeysuckle’ and brand new ‘Purple Geranium’ colourways, and there are a few kits in other colourways as well!

Piper and Squirrel Stitch Marker Tin

These sweet little characters will keep you company on all your knits!

Sweet new haberdashery has arrived in the shop! We love these compact and convenient little tins for holding all your knitting notions, and the lovely vintage illustration of a piper and a squirrel frolicking between two balls of yarn just adds to the joy. This tin doesn’t come with the stitch markers pictured but it’s ready to fill with your yarn needles, stitch markers, buttons, and other knitting bits and bobs. Plus it’s super easy to get your hand on in even the most overflowing of project bags. Pick up your very own Piper and Squirrel Stitch Marker Tin.
