We’re thrilled to welcome a really beautiful new collection of curious creatures by Julie Arkell!
We’ve admired Julie’s work and counted her as a close friend and collaborator since the very earliest days of Loop, and still it never gets any less special to take in a new collection of her incredible work. The latest pieces that have just arrived are ponderous, inquisitive, and a joy to behold.
Each of Julie’s dolls is totally unique, and each one has its own personality and spirit. Made from papier-mache, meticulous knitting, and stitching on special fabrics, Julie brings her characters to life with love and careful attention to detail. Her artistry is a true wonder.
It’s a true honour to have eight new pieces from Julie in the shop. Thought-provoking and whimsical, these creatures will become great companions. You can browse the full collection on Julie’s dedicated page on our website. There is truly nothing else like Julie’s art.
If you’re feeling inspired by Julie to create, you can learn the craft from the master herself! There is currently one space left in Julie’s October 25th Creature Workshop at Loop and two spaces in her “Play” Workshop on the 8th of November. The Creature Workshop shows you all you need to create your very own Julie-style creature, and the “Play” Workshop invites you to use your imagination to create stories out of fabric scraps. Both workshops are an opportunity to think and make like Julie. You can also enjoy one of the monographs of Julie’s work, Home and Away.
Meet + Greet with Claire Montgomerie
We’re so thrilled to welcome Claire Montgomerie back to Loop this weekend as her new Complete Guide to Granny Squares launches. It’s always special to have Claire back in the shop (she was the very first Loopette), and this weekend promises to be a great one! On Saturday the 10th at 11am she’ll teach her Crochet Granny Squares Workshop next door at Frequency coffee. There are still a few spots in this popular class, so sign up to join us if you’re free! Then, from 4pm to 5pm that same day she’ll be in the shop at Loop for a Meet + Greet where you can get your Complete Guide to Granny Squares signed and ask Claire any other questions you may have!
