Yarn Joy! Kokon and Qing Galore

Yarn Joy! Kokon and Qing Galore

Some weeks the yarn is so glorious we just go a little starry eyed. This is one of those weeks.

Kokon Organic O-Bleu

We’re thrilled to have more gorgeous yarn from Kokon in the shop! Kokon is the brainchild and creative expression of Michelle Du Plessis, a lifelong devotee of texture and colour. For Michelle, colour is poetry — it holds emotional power. Her latest flair is O-Bleu, an organic wool sport weight yarn with colours inspired by the ocean. “Speckle”, “Tie Dye”, and “Semi Solid” together show the different moods of the churning sea, from frothy breakers and white caps to placid undulating swells. O-Bleu is made from mulesing-free non-superwash organic merino wool from Argentina and hand-dyed to perfection. Some of our favourite patterns that use this yarn include the Nell Sweater, KOKO sweater, Flakes sweater, and Little Stitches Shawl.

Qing Silk Mohair

As if that wasn’t enough excitement, we have oodles of skeins of Qing Silk Mohair as well. This base is as wispy as a cloud, and the colours Layla Qing achieves are just as ephemeral! This yarn is simply stunning. It is superb for lace knitting and it also complements other yarns very well, giving any piece a glowing halo you’ll have to see to believe. The Qing team has designed the very cool and artsy Kýma Sweater using this base, but they’ve also used it in more traditional pieces like the Dreaming Slow Hat. Basically any project that calls for a lace-weight yarn where you want to add a bit of pizzazz, Qing Silk Mohair is the answer!

La Bien Aimée Cashmerino Tiny Tassels Kit

The Tiny Tassel Shawlette in La Bien Aimée colours “Bisous de Loop” and “Hegelia”

Seasons come and seasons go, but our love for the Tiny Tassels Shawlette never fades. This Loop original pattern has seen so many iterations and been knit by so many hands. It’s such a thrill to see customers coming into the shop wearing their own versions. One of our favourite yarns for this pattern is La Bien Aimée Cashmerino, and we are so chuffed to say we’ve restocked La Bien Aimée Cashmerino Tiny Tassels Kits in a whole range of colour combinations. In these kits you get a whole skein of LBA Cashmerino for the body of the shawl and a cake of LBA Merino Singles to make the cute little tassels that make this piece the star that it is. The kit also includes a printed version of the pattern and a Loop cotton project bag. But don’t forget, if you can’t find a kit colour that suits you, you can always order Cashmerino and Merino Singles à la carte and use the free online version of the pattern!

Crochet Heirloom Quilt Class

We’re thrilled that the lovely Roseanna Murray is returning to Loop this summer to share her wonderful crochet skills with us. Roseanna first hosted her popular Crochet Heirloom Quilt Class in the shop last autumn and it was a total hit. She is passionate about helping crafters over the hump from advanced beginner to confident crocheter, and it was so lovely to see so many curious people get that spark right before our eyes. The timing of this class on 2 August is just perfect: you’ll get to pick up a project to see you through the last of the summer holidays and into cosy autumn evenings, and by the time the cold weather really sets in you’ll have a lovely blanket to keep you warm! This quilt would also make a lovely holiday gift, perhaps for a newlywed couple or a growing family — or if you’re super quick you might just be able to finish it in time to send a budding undergraduate off to student halls with a very special memento!

Happy weekend!
