A Last-Minute Christmas Cowl
With just four more sleeps until Christmas, you might think your gift-knitting ship has sailed. But with the help of the newly arrived Malabrigo Mecha, we did a little experiment and discovered that this Chunky Seeded Cowl can save the day! Knit in just three evenings, you can have a super-cosy cowl and great gift by Christmas morning.
Downloadable from Ravelry, the Chunky Seeded Cowl is a big, squishy hug of a knit that looks great on everyone. It can be worn bunched up around your neck to keep the winter winds out, or pulled down around the shoulders for extra warmth indoors. Knit on 10mm, 60cm-long circular needles, it knits up super quick!
We knit the cowl using 3 skeins of Mecha, holding the yarn double. This simply means holding two strands of yarn at the same time, as though they are one. So you can use two balls of yarn at once and then split the last skein into two balls to finish. We used the gorgeous Vaa colourway, but there are so many beautiful colours to choose from!
“Mecha” means “single ply” in the local Uruguayan dialect where Malabrigo is spun and dyed. The single ply nature of this yarn gives it a velvety soft texture and really makes the colours sing.
So go for it! There’s nothing like a beautifully hand-made gift, after all.
A very happy, hand-made Christmas to you from all of us at Loop! x
