Beautiful Haberdashery at the Selvedge Fair
What would a beautiful piece of knitting be without the perfect accessories to compliment it? Whether an essential tool or the finishing touch of a button we love finding the right piece of haberdashery to delight you.
We are currently counting down the days to the Selvedge Winter Fair at the end of this month where Loop will be selling a selection of treats and gift ideas. So here’s a little post to show off some of our favourite pieces and introduce you to some stunning new additions.
Plus, in this weeks exciting competition we are giving you the chance to win a ticket to the Selvedge Winter Fair!
Read to the end of the post to find out how to enter.
Though Loop will be mostly bringing haberdashery and readymade items to the fair, we will also have kits of some of our most popular patterns. Above is Quince & Co. Finch, which is used for the stripey Cameo Shawl by Paulina P. And yes, you may have spotted underneath there is her beautiful Josephine shawl which we are bringing a kit for as well!
Classic favourites like the Yozo Scissors  and the little Copper Berry Stitch Markers  are essentials for every project bag.  Plus the many goodies we will be bringing from French haberdashery company Sajou include this vintage style wooden measuring tape.
Beautiful and useful, these wooden needle gauges have it all! Available in smaller sizes too which are perfect for attaching to your project bag you’ll never be without the means to determine the size of that needle!
Equally useful and beautiful, washi tape  is every knitters saviour when it comes to following charts, or just brighting up notebooks and parcels. Now we have this adorable grumpy kitty tape dispenser your to keep an eye on your favourite pattern too.
To keep your knits not only smelling gorgeous but also projected from any pesky visitors, we have lavender sachets featuring the illustrations of Emily Maude. Plus, the handmade ceramic buttons by Laura Walker  and the seemingly ceramic (they are actually bamboo coated with plastic) ChiaoGoo Blue and White needle set.
Of course, it is equally essential to have the right place to keep all your haberdashery. We are swooning over the beautiful silk screened bags and rolls from ‘Pleased to Meet’. Created by a couple who met while working for different design companies their products have a charming retro aesthetic.
Designed for crochet hooks, we think the rollup bag mades an equally cosy home for some short Rosewood needles and the Sajou Penknife.
Or their little project bags with the feather design or arrows are just the thing for projects on the go.

My needle gauge that has a hidden cutting blade on the back for yarn.
My essential knitting item is my bamboo knit pro circular needles. My son has autisum & when I knit with regular needles he tries to hold on to the end of the needles. Circular needles enable me to knit when he is in the same room.
Honestly? Just me, my needles and the yarn! But at a push, I am quite attached to my tiny scissors-they were a freebie from Mollie Makes. I now have my eyes on those stunning project bags though:).
stitch markers are always a must when i’m knitting. must keep the pattern straight!
The Addi circular needles which I have only discovered this year are wonderful for knitting.
i can’t knit without wahsi tape for the charts, your grumpy cat dispenser is adorable I may have to get one!
I definitely need my lovely Chaiogoo needles, especially my set of interchangeable needles.
All I need is my knitpro circulars and some yarn, but those acorn needle gauges are on my list!!
Always always my tape measure – I currently use a beautiful hand me down from my grandmother – but the measurement markings are almost all worn off.
Always need my tape measure – my current one was from my granny but so well used I can barely see the markings!
My Clover row counter is a must have for me!
That grumpy little cat tape dispenser looks just like my grumpy little cat when he’s meowing on my face at 4am because he wants a cat sausage!
He likes to chase the balls of yarn from all my ufo’s round the house, so pretty knitting bags to hide them from him are my treasured tool.
I have a fondness for pretty little scissors but I’m eyeing up those gorgeous wooden needle gauges!
I was given the most beautiful pure silver needle which is perfect for sewing in ends invisibly. The design is flawless, with its twist and then curved end and large eye for easy threading; obviously made by a master silversmith and expert knitter.
My folding sissors are a must when I’m knitting and travelling. For mine and fellow travellers safety!
My essential tool has to be my tape measure. In fact I’m not quite sure how accurate it is – my late mum gave it to me aeons ago and it has stretched a bit I think – but I can go with it (and it makes me seem slimmer!) and I think of her every time I use it. Ta Ma!
I just lost my favorite darning needle, I am surprised by how hard it’s been to find a replacement. Who knew? 3
I CAN NOT knit with out my yarn bowl that my mom made me and my sheep measurement tape that i got as a gift!
Two items, both simple and effective and they make sewing up a pleasure, some grippy pink clasps(magazine free gift) to hold your knitting together while sewing up using the needle with the upturned tip, made by Clover and bought on a visit to Loop.
My lovely knitting bag which my dsrling sister made for me
When knitting I always have my trusty wooden crochet hool to hand, to pick up any dropped stitches easily!
I love my little project bag that I got from Toft, very handy at keeping everything together so I can just pick it up and go.
I cannot knit without beautiful, inspiring yarn!! Love delicious colours and textures and seeing them come to life!
My crochet hooks are now crying out to be rolled up in the lovely “Pleased to Meet” silk screen printed roll.
It’s a toss up between my addi circular needle kit and my clover yarn cutter. Both go with me where ever I travel. I can start or adjust projects on the fly without worrying about having the right size and getting through security.
I love my note book to count rows but I also love my cat blossom to sit on my lap
It’s got to be my reading glasses;-)
Hi to the London Loop,
I was reading through your newsletter for October 17th and found a feature of Chiao Goo Blue Floral Needles. they are gorgeous! However I am in search of the shawl that is placed so beautifully under the needles, Lavender sachets and buttons. Could you let me know if that particular shawl pattern is carried in your shop, and the name if you do so that I may purchase it?
Thanks for your help.
Fondly, Deb from MN
Dear Deb,
Thanks for getting in touch. The shawl is called Josephine and it is available to purchase on our online shop here-

Happy knitting!
Loop
No distractions!! Unless it’s a cup of tea or a glass of wine!!
Oh my goodness, so many beautiful things..where to begin….with a Christmas list!
A pad and a pencil for row counting and notes and a pair of sharp scissors
What beautiful things! The perfect knitting time for me means a skein of lovely yarn, chaiogoo needles, my row counter and a cat curled up on my lap. A cup of tea and homemade cake – bliss!
My pretty heron shaped scissors
I have two favourite needles, one for weaving in ends and one for threading beads on string for crochet beaded rope bracelets. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost it. It was handed to me by my crochet guru Bee and I never found an equally good size needle since. I really treasure it!
Apart from the usual things without doubt for me is a pencil and notebook. Without which I would forget where I am with all the interruptions!! (Usually when I SHOULD be cooking dinner instead of knitting ) ;-)
I can’t be without my crochet hook for lost stitches and my pencil- to mark where I stopped in the pattern or how many rows I’ve done-I get so lost otherwise!
My essential tool is the bright orange pouffe I knitted to rest my poorly ankle on while I knit. Its colour makes me happy every time I use it. Oh, and I can stand on it too to see myself in the mirror while I try on garments as I knit them.
Radio 4 and needles……
My teapot cozy so that I have a warm pot of tea on tap for a while, meaning that I don’t have to get up to put the kettle on mid-row!
Safety pins are essential – big ones to use as stitch markers, stitch holders and to hold seams when sewing.
I just love pretty stitch markers. They enhance the project and we all love looking at pretty things.
oh my! I am going to have to print out my Christmas wish list and place them in my daughter’s cars, mail to my sister and brother. Would that be a little obvious? Lol
My clover yarn cutter is really handy and doesn’t seem to walk as easily as numerous pairs of scissors do!
My favourite crafty item is my bakelite darning mushroom which I picked up from an antique fair in Whitby. The top unscrews and it contains a selection of darning and sewing needles … essential for sewing in all the ends of my crocheted items
Although I have a bag full of knitting accessory essentials, I could not knit on-the-go without my iPad and knitCompanion! If I had to choose something, then a crochet hook suitable to pick-up dropped stitches would be top of my list!
At the moment, my teeny tiny 0.75mm crochet hook for beading; I’ve become thoroughly addicted to beaded shawls!
I love my sheep stitch markers.
They were a present and they make me smile every time I use them!
