There has been a little whirlwind of activity at Loop recently. To start with, a gorgeous troupe of exquisitely hand stitched and embroidered horses and lavender sachet ladies have made their way from distant shores – all the way from Australia- to our little shop in London.
Some beautiful new colours from Qing Fibre have arrived at Loop! Qing Fibre is the product of the creative visions of Layla (Qing) Yang. Layla’s love of eye-catching colour that ripples and changes with every stitch is evident in all of her bases. Layla has been dyeing yarn since 2016 and sourcing ethically produced fibres from Peru and England to hand dye in her London studio ever since. What is Sashiko? Sashiko means “little stabs” referring to the distinctive running stitch that defines this technique of Japanese needlework. Traditional Sashiko was used to reinforce or repair old clothing with simple stitches to strengthen and mend. Today, the traditional art of Sashiko has become an art form in itself and is used for primarily decorative purposes like visible mending, quilting and embroidery. Sashiko designs consist of geometric patterns and tesselating shapes. Common motifs include designs inspired by nature like clouds, bamboo, rippling water and waves and persimmon flower.
