The tweedlike texture created by the easy slip stitch technique is the also the inspiration behind the name, as Hawick (pronounced Hoyk) is a town in Scotland where tweed was invented. Rachel wanted to use several colours together to create the heathered look, but also keep the construction straight forward . So the answer was to keep it simple with a slip stitch that means you only use one colour at a time on each row- easy!

Plus, the size is easy to adapt, you just need to make sure that your stitches are cast on in multiples of four. Rachel told us how she thought the design would look fabulous as a long loop wrapped round twice – “Plus the reverse is equally lovely and neat as the front so it doesn’t matter if it’s on display”

The Orkney Angora St Magnus is a luxury mix of lambswool and responsibly sourced angora.  This blend means it’s light to wear and adds a stylish layer of warmth against winter winds. Plus the yarn is so deliciously soft! We are thrilled to have worked with Orkney Angora to create seven colours (shown above) that are exclusive just to Loop! Of course, three of these feature in Hawick – Magical Goose, Ghost and London Soot.

Loop stocks 31 beautiful colours of Orkney Angora St Magnus, including our seven bespoke colours. Plus, with the three balls of yarn used you actually have enough for two cowls by swopping the colours around. Just use Magical Goose or Ghost as the main colour in place of London Soot.

Below you can see some of the colour combinations we had fun choosing, but we also can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  1. Lovely pattern! It looks so snuggly in the Angora – I’ve been wanting to try it for a while and this has tipped me over the edge!

  2. Knitting Cameo at the moment and it’s going too quickly. Would very much like to make this the next one on the list!

  3. Thank you so much for your prompt delivery of my order, fabulous service! Can’t wait to start the cowl, the yarn feels amazing.

  4. Echoing Janet’s words above. Thank you for prompt delivery. The eager anticipation of unwrapping a package from Loop is sheer joy. Thank you

    • Found it. In the pdf it says ‘dont break the yarn when changing colours, carry it across etc..’ I don’t understand fully; does this mean carry it for a bit then cut it? I cant have two balls of yarn going it’ll all get tangled. I wish she had explained
