We have such treasures from two of our very favourite creators this week: a bunch of loveliness from Mina Perhonen and a brand new collection from Julie Arkell!
Minä Perhonen is a real favourite around here, and has been a huge inspiration to Susan and so many Loopettes. It’s not just the incredibly beautiful buttons, bags, and brooches this designer produces, it’s the care for materials, attention to detail, and rich story behind each piece that comes out of the studio.
Akira Minagawa founded Minä Perhonen in 1995 with a mission to create beautiful things that grow richer with time rather than fading and an ethos of wasting as little as possible. Many of the beautiful things from the studio that get lovingly added to our customers’ creations are actually treasured offcuts that get rescued and turned into the beautiful bits that will adorn your garments for many years to come.
Our latest arrivals from Minä include Large Circle Brooches, Small Circle Brooches, and Fabric Swatch sets. Beautiful brooches are the fastest way to get Minä’s designs from the shop to your wardrobe. In fact, we bet you won’t even make it out the door before pinning your flower or butterfly to your lapel, tote, or hat.
For those who fancy a bit of patchwork, Swatches are the perfect way to make Minä’s designs totally your own. For mending your favourite jacket, stitching a new addition into a family quilt, or creating an artful sampler for your wall, these motifs will become part of the fabric of your life. The bits of various fabric scraps are extraordinary and so unusual.
New creatures from Julie Arkell! These most wonderful, unique creations are always lovely to have in the shop. These folk-art-inspired papier-mache figures are brought to life with Julie’s knitting, stitching, and special textiles. Special characters to bring into your home, these little companions are a beautiful way to bring art and a bit of reflection into your everyday life. We love Julie and her creatures!
We’ve had so many beautiful skeins and mini skeins arrive from The Grey Sheep! Traditionally woolen spun in Yorkshire with wool from their own flock of sheep, this is a wonderful British yarn that’s great for colourwork. Hampshire 4-ply is surprisingly lofty, with good definition and a silky bloom once blocked that only improves with more wear and washing. It’s a true testament to the artisanship and skill that goes into each step of producing this wool. From raising the sheep, shearing them, and dyeing the skeins, the Hampshire 4-Ply is a true labour of love. We’ll have more ideas for colour combinations in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
