Quince & Co. Ibis
Some marvellous mohair and merino is back on our needles courtesy of Quince & Co! Introducing Ibis, a chunky version of the airy lace weight Piper.
Of course you folks know all about Piper from our blog post (and if not pop over here!) Ibis, just like its lace weight sibling, has the same blend of Texas-sourced super kid mohair and superfine merino.
As a heavier weight, the qualities of the yarn are amplified. Ibis has an amazing sheen and almost silky handle, plus the mohair content doesn’t overwhelm the stitches. Rather than a brushed mohair with long fibres, Ibis just has a quiet glow about it with the softest of halos.
We took it for a spin with some simple lace. This swatch was using an 8mm needle, enhancing the drape of the yarn and lacey fabric.
Ibis is ideal for thicker winter garments and accessories and the luscious mix of mohair and merino means knits that are toasty warm, but still lightweight to wear. Ibis would work for any Quince & Co. pattern that uses Puffin and would be beautiful for cowls, hats and throws.

Behind the scenes at Quince & Co. while they developed Ibis, swatches lead to the creation of two classic hat patterns, which are available for free on the Quince & Co blog here!
These beanies include a little simple stitch detail so you can put the yarn through its paces and you’ll just need one skein for a hat.
As Ibis comes in seven gorgeous colours, Quince & Co. suggest knitting a hat in each colour with a different hat for every day of the week!
Happy Knitting and Crocheting!
I’m hoping that this is the right comment box in which to type my hopes of winning that beautiful Nautilus yarn. I am now very intrigued by Cecilia’s scientifically inspired knitting and want to give those algorithms a try.
Best wishes from NYC.
