Quince & Co. Piper
Soft and floaty, Quince & Co.’s new yarn Piper might make you fall in love with mohair in a whole new way. Blended with a 50% mix of merino this yarn has a smoother texture than brushed mohair with more stitch definition, but still a gorgeous halo. With a range of pastel shades this almost lace weight is perfect for warm and light hats, jumpers and of course shawls.
Piper celebrates the mohair heritage of Texas – which is maybe not the first place you might associate this fibre with! Texas used to be a big exporter of the lovely fuzzy stuff and though trade has lessened somewhat, there are still breeders of these beautiful angora goats. The fibre produced by these goats is mohair which is spun with merino wool to make the delightful based of Piper.
Each colour of Piper pays tribute to Texas as well, with each named after a place in the state. Evocative of the subtle colours of vintage prints, there are ten mouth watering shades to chose from.
As always, Quince & Co. have some complimentary patterns, each one encapsulating the classic yet simple and modern aesthetic that they do so well. First up is a designer Loop has fallen for already, Melanie Berg and her Love and Lemons shawl (we interviewed her last week on the blog!) Using three skeins in the sorbet fresh Amarillo Melanie says, ‘it will be as warm and light as sunshine on your shoulders.’
Shawls are always so delightful to knit and to wear, and the eyelet stitch detail of Eudora shows off the subtle shade of Sweetwater, but we think it would be perfect in any colour!
Want a shrug to cover a simple dress in summer and see you through to the winter as a light and warm staple garment? Of course you do! Designer Hannah Fettig is known and loved for her simple and effortlessly wearable garments and Ella (shown here in the shade San Angelo) is the flattering answer to any knitters ‘what to knit next?’.
Interested in trying Piper? Why not enter our giveaway to win two skeins in the colour of your choice? Leave a comment below saying which one colour you would choose (you can see all the colours again on our online shop) and we will pick a name out of the hat next week. This competition will close at midnight on Wednesday 6th August. (This competition is now closed, but keep an eye out for more give aways in the future)
Good Luck and Happy Knitting!
I’m a yellow fan and will always steer toward that…the Amarillo is beautiful.
hard to choose. they are all so beautiful. i think San Angelo is my favorite.
I’d love some Abilene for a classic summer cardi.
Wow, this yarn looks dreamy! If I had to choose I would pick Odessa. Gorgeous!
I like very much the soft hues and the dreamy look of the skeins. It’s difficult to pick just one, but I’d go for Avocet.
So pretty! San Angelo is the one for me.
My favourite colour is Abilene!
Blues for me, especially Sweetwater.
I would love the san angelo, but all the colours are so romantic!
Beautiful yarn but I would say the Caracara comes out best.
My favourite colour is Odessa. Thanks for the giveaway.
I think it must be Sweetwater, thank you. ;-D
Luverly… I’d go for Rock Springs :-)
I would love to knit something in colour Caracara.
Oh my! Caracara had jumped off the screen and twirled itself around my heart…
Beautiful yarn. Rock springs is my favourite :) Thank you
What a gorgeous yarn! I haven’t had a chance to touch and feel it yet, but just looking at the pictures it looks SO soft and cuddly! To choose just one colour is almost impossible – I especially like the subtleness of the shades – all very wearable and timeless. I can imagine my Grandma wearing an intricate shawl in Long Horn, a baby blanket in Rock Springs or Odessa, and myself wearing a simple wrap cardi in Avocet over a summer dress..
Yet, if I have to REALLY choose just one shade then I’d go for Amarillo – I have a thing about soft yellow shades these days. :)
So hard to choose but I think I’d go for Guadaloupe.
I think it’s got to be Amarillo and knit Ella absolutely beautiful :)
All the colours are lovely but I like Sweetwater the best. A gorgeous deep blue and such an attractive name. It conjures up delicious dainty springs and tranquil pools. Calming, soothing and refreshing all at the same time.
Gorgeous colours, but I think Avocet is the one that speaks most to me (today anyway!)
Mmh, very difficult. The yarn looks gorgeous and I would choose Abilene.
This yarn looks great – I would love to knit in colour San Angelo.
Ok so I’m a bluff old traditionalist but I adore the Avocet colour or maybe non-colour. Gorgeous
All beautiful shades – but Guadaloupe is just perfect.
They’re all beautiful, but I’m partial to Sweetwater.
Amarillo looks really, really nice!
CaraCara look absolutely lovely, my fingers are itching…
Feast for my tired eyes. Beautiful colours, can imagine shawls in all of them,, but, if push came to shove I’d opt for Amarillo.
Difficult to choose. They all look lovely.
Love the Odessa, would make a lovely Autumn hat and Cowl.
Sweetwater is just to die for!! It looks so soft as lovely :-)
I can’t believe that the glorious Caracara hasn’t attracted even more followers. It looks so sumptuous that I will have to get my hands on it. Imagine the Eudora shawl knitted in that…
I love the beautiful soft blue Sweet Water and would knit

Caracara ! No doubt!… But maybe… Heck is hard to pick a favourite .
So hard to choose just one. But it will have to be Seawater.
Caracara would be nice. It has just enough coral red in it to appeal as a scarf or a shrug and would be lovely framing the face.
Rock Springs or Guadalupe please -it must be the blue sky connection!

I’d choose longhorn for a “special occasion” shawl.
Avocet or Odessa are beautiful for one of the shawls.

I’d love the Caracara! What a beautiful red.
Caracara – anticipating the soft colours of Autumn, not far away…
Decisions, decisions. I think the Sweetwater is smashing, particularly in the Eudora shawl. I hope this range proves a popular one for you, as it should.
The San Angelo would look beautiful in any season!!
Caracara is one of the prettiest reds I’ve ever seen! That really calls my needles to come knit!

Such pretty colours! San Angelo would be my first choice.
I adore the Caracara – it would be my first choice, although it’s tough to pick just one.
Odessea looks a beautiful colour
As I’m still into the small sized knits for my daughter: a wonderful caracara lace work shawl and ‘riding hood’ would make autumn and winter seasons to treasure
Odessa is gorgeous! The whole line looks yummy…
They are all so beautiful that it’s a hard choice. But I guess Odessa. It’s the first pink shade I’ve liked in a long time.
Love all the colors!!! Esp odessa. Can’t wait to try this new yarn out…
So surprised to see these lovely yarns named after Texas towns. I grew up in San Angelo — we had a wool & mohair festival every year — back in the day. There was even a Miss Wool crowned at the event ^v^. I’m so pleased to know the fibers coming from our part of the world are being so well used & shared!
I LOVE Caracara. So lovely so appealing …
Sweetwater is perfection!
I love the Avocet!! Perfection.
Odessa for me is a gorgeous hue, ready for moving into Autumnal colours but still light enough to wear in late Summer.
gorgeous yarns and patterns! the palette is really beautiful so it’s hard to choose, but i’d go for the neutral Longhorn to start with i think.

Beautiful yarn! It’s not easy to choose among these lovely shades but I think Rock Springs is my favourite.
It’s hard to choose a favourite but I would love to make a shawl with San-Angelo.
Definetly Odessa for me! Absolutely gorgeous yarn!
