Quince & Co. Piper

Quince & Co. Piper - All the Colours. Loop, London. www. loopknitlounge. com

Soft and floaty, Quince & Co.’s new yarn Piper might make you fall in love with mohair in a whole new way. Blended with a 50% mix of merino this yarn has a smoother texture than brushed mohair with more stitch definition, but still a gorgeous halo.  With a range of pastel shades this almost lace weight is perfect for warm and light hats, jumpers and of course shawls.

Piper  celebrates the mohair heritage of Texas – which is maybe not the first place you might associate this fibre with! Texas used to be a big exporter of the lovely fuzzy stuff and though trade has lessened somewhat, there are still breeders of these beautiful angora goats. The fibre produced by these goats is mohair which is spun with merino wool to make the delightful based of Piper.

Each colour of Piper pays tribute to Texas as well, with each named after a place in the state. Evocative of the subtle colours of vintage prints, there are ten mouth watering shades to chose from.

As always, Quince & Co. have some complimentary patterns, each one encapsulating the classic yet simple and modern aesthetic that they do so well. First up is a designer Loop has fallen for already, Melanie Berg and her Love and Lemons shawl (we interviewed her last week on the blog!) Using three skeins in the sorbet fresh Amarillo Melanie says, ‘it will be as warm and light as sunshine on your shoulders.’

Shawls are always so delightful to knit and to wear, and the eyelet stitch detail of Eudora shows off the subtle shade of Sweetwater, but we think it would be perfect in any colour!

Want a shrug to cover a simple dress in summer and see you through to the winter as a light and warm staple garment? Of course you do! Designer Hannah Fettig  is known and loved for her simple and effortlessly wearable garments and Ella (shown here in the shade San Angelo) is the flattering answer to any knitters ‘what to knit next?’.

  1. I like very much the soft hues and the dreamy look of the skeins. It’s difficult to pick just one, but I’d go for Avocet.

  2. What a gorgeous yarn! I haven’t had a chance to touch and feel it yet, but just looking at the pictures it looks SO soft and cuddly! To choose just one colour is almost impossible – I especially like the subtleness of the shades – all very wearable and timeless. I can imagine my Grandma wearing an intricate shawl in Long Horn, a baby blanket in Rock Springs or Odessa, and myself wearing a simple wrap cardi in Avocet over a summer dress..
Yet, if I have to REALLY choose just one shade then I’d go for Amarillo – I have a thing about soft yellow shades these days. :)

  3. All the colours are lovely but I like Sweetwater the best. A gorgeous deep blue and such an attractive name. It conjures up delicious dainty springs and tranquil pools. Calming, soothing and refreshing all at the same time.

  4. Feast for my tired eyes. Beautiful colours, can imagine shawls in all of them,, but, if push came to shove I’d opt for Amarillo.

  5. I can’t believe that the glorious Caracara hasn’t attracted even more followers. It looks so sumptuous that I will have to get my hands on it. Imagine the Eudora shawl knitted in that…

  6. What beautiful yarn! All the colours are gorgeous but Caracara wins for me, subtle but bold and just right to see me through into Autumn :-)

  7. Caracara would be nice. It has just enough coral red in it to appeal as a scarf or a shrug and would be lovely framing the face.

  8. It’s caracara for me – would make a lovely late summer into autumn shawl – how about love and autumn leaves?

  9. Quince and Co. just gets better and better…..Piper is a great addition to their lovely yarns. I’d choose Sweetwater for a lovely shawl. Thanks for the giveaway.

  10. Amarillo because “Is this the way to Amarillo, every night I’ll be hugging my pillow, dreaming dreams of Amariillo” especially if it has been knitting from this beautiful looking yarn.

  11. San Angelo is subtely stunning. It suits Ella perfectly. That’s my favourite but caracara and rock springs are a close second and third. One of those wools I can’t wait to touch to see if it’s as dreamy as it looks

  12. Oh my gosh…how do you choose one of these beauties.
I am drawn to Rocksprings and Longhorn together but Rocksprings would win out.

  13. I can never resist the watery colours in the end… And San Angelo is the one for me here! Beautiful! I have never knitted with mohair ever! Well I hope I shAll one way or another soon. :-) thanks for the chance.

  14. Decisions, decisions. I think the Sweetwater is smashing, particularly in the Eudora shawl. I hope this range proves a popular one for you, as it should.

  15. I really love Quince and Co yarns, so I guess Piper will also fight to gain a place in my stash! Cacara looks very appealing-that would be my choice

  16. Oh! …..I just love the look of this! Any yarn with a halo will win me over! Sweetwater would be the color I would love to try!

  17. As I’m still into the small sized knits for my daughter: a wonderful caracara lace work shawl and ‘riding hood’ would make autumn and winter seasons to treasure

  18. They are all so beautiful that it’s a hard choice. But I guess Odessa. It’s the first pink shade I’ve liked in a long time.

  19. So surprised to see these lovely yarns named after Texas towns. I grew up in San Angelo — we had a wool & mohair festival every year — back in the day. There was even a Miss Wool crowned at the event ^v^. I’m so pleased to know the fibers coming from our part of the world are being so well used & shared!

  20. Odessa for me is a gorgeous hue, ready for moving into Autumnal colours but still light enough to wear in late Summer.

  21. gorgeous yarns and patterns! the palette is really beautiful so it’s hard to choose, but i’d go for the neutral Longhorn to start with i think.

  22. Beautiful yarn! It’s not easy to choose among these lovely shades but I think Rock Springs is my favourite.

  23. What a beautiful looking yarn, soft & luxurious to knit a lovely shawl. I think my favourite would be San Angelo
