Sweetness by Tin Can Knits – Free Pattern

Sweetness by Tin Can Knits – Free Pattern

If you’re a regular Ravelry user, by now you’ve probably seen on of the many lovely patterns by design duo Tin Can Knits. We’ve had their book, 9 Months of Knitting, in the shop for a while, and we recently started stocking their single patterns and newer book, Pacific Knits. Emily, one half of the Tin Can team, has been kind enough to design Sweetness, which right now is available exclusively on the Loop blog – lucky us! It uses under 150 m each of two shades of Malabrigo Twist, one of our softest, squishiest yarns. (Shown here in Terron and Zinc.)

Sweetness is a lace cowl that has a little bit of extra cosiness from the use of a chunky merino yarn, and it’s extra fun too because you get to try out some simple intarsia!

As Emily says,

Sweet and rich hot chocolate, delicate lavender and a simple little lace pattern combine to make this snuggly cowl all sweetness and light! It is also a great way to have your first experience with intarsia – a simple and useful colourwork technique which allows you to work more than one colour one a single row.

Indeed! In fact, those Tin Can girls do spoil us – they have a brilliant intarsia tutorial on their blog.

While we are on the subject of the talented Tin Can ladies today, we thought you might like to get to know Alexa and Emily a bit better. Alexa is based in Vancouver and Emily in Edinburgh and somehow they manage to work together by having Skype meetings at 10:30 pm PST and 6:30 am GMT respectively! They come from different backgrounds, Alexa having been in teaching and Emily in architecture, but it seems to  us that they have found a great partnership in spite of the constraints of time and distance. The evidence is in all the wonderful patterns they’ve created!

At Loop, one of our absolute favourites is Snowflake, which would be stunning in Madelinetosh Merino DK:

One for you, one for the kiddo, all in one pattern!

And, oh! – we love this one too –

Antler – also in adult and kid sizes! Knit in Madelinetosh Vintage.

And aren’t these gorgeous?!

You can check out the other lovely patterns from Alexa and Emily available from Loop here and their books here and here. You might also want to see the preview for their forthcoming collection of lace designs using UK indie dyers including Loop favourites Juno, Shilasdair and Old Maiden Aunt!

We can’t wait to see the gorgeous colour combinations you come up with for your own Sweetness cowls. And thanks again to Emily and Alexa for the stunning free pattern!

    • I have tested the download on two computers and it still seems to be working. Do you have another computer you could try downloading from? Otherwise, perhaps make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader on your computer: http://get.adobe.com/reader/ Hope that helps!

  2. Had no problem downloading in Google Chrome. I personally fine that AOL is finicky, not allowing certain activity. Hope that helps.

  3. Manasa,

Were you able to download it? it was starting to hang up when I just clicked on it, but then I did the “right click” and “save link as” steps and it downloaded without a hitch. I’m using Firefox and have and updated Adobe, too.
