Toast of the Town: New Minä Perhonen Bags at Loop!

Toast of the Town: New Minä Perhonen Bags at Loop!

There are few things more artful than a handcrafted textile, and few have excelled in creating them more than Japanese design house Minä Perhonen. We have treasured the brand’s buttons, brooches, and fabric for a long time (as have many of you!) and we are so pleased to have a new line of their popular Toast Bags made just for Loop!

Minä Perhonen designs are guided and honed by a unique ethos that makes their textiles truly special. Founder Akira Minagawa had a vision of creating products with long-lasting appeal, and of approaching the creative process with an eye to the future. Minä Perhonen’s creations do not lose their allure over time, but rather become better loved the more they are worn and used. The company also minimises waste, making sure to use every scrap of fabric, and designs with the next hundred years in mind.

The textile designs at Minä Perhonen begin with a sketch and grow through time and care into storytelling pieces that are as pleasing to touch as they are to look at. The recycled fabrics used for the Loop Toast Bags are no different, sporting signature Minä Perhon embellishments such as circles of dots, flowers, and butterflies (Minä Perhon means ‘I Butterfly’ in Finnish) as well as original shapes and images that express our shared values of dedication to craft, creativity, and community.

These totes are stunning in all their beautifully thought out detail. Each colourway is composed of six different motifs, plus gorgeous lining and sturdy, playful handles. They are exquisite as handbags, augmenting whatever other clothing they may be paired with, and perfect for toting around a small project. We really hope you will cherish these as much as we do.

New Treasures from Julie Arkell

We are all atwitter to have more lovely creations from Julie Arkell in the shop. These painstakingly handmade creatures are wistful and extraordinarily charming, combining papier-mache, hand-knitting, stitching, and embroidery. Each piece is totally unique — no two are ever the same! Julie is one of England’s most recognised contemporary folk artists and we are always so honoured to share her work.

Aimée Gille and Jonna Hietala visit Loop!

Aimée Gille wearing the Knitprovisation shawl designed by Stephen West for her new book, Worsted.

On Saturday 4 December we are delighted to welcome Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée and Jonna Hietala of Laine Publishing to celebrate the publication of Worsted, a Knitwear Collection, and La Bien Aimee’s newest yarn, Corrie Worsted. From 11 am to 1 pm and again from 3pm to 4 pm, Aimée and Jonna will be in the shop for a book signing and trunk show including samples from Worsted. They’ll return for a ticketed evening event, where we’ll host a conversation about the book followed by drinks, nibbles, and a chance to chat informally. Attendees of the evening event will receive a special bag to mark the occasion of La Bien Aimée, Laine Publishing, and Loop being together again. Our Covid precautions remain in place. Attendees will be asked to wear a face covering when not eating or drinking and the windows will be open part of the time — dress accordingly! Make sure to book tickets as we expect this event to sell out.
