Totally Yarnadelic! Welcoming John Arbon Textiles to Loop

Totally Yarnadelic! Welcoming John Arbon Textiles to Loop

This week we’re welcoming John Arbon Textiles to Loop for the first time as skeins of Yarnadelic hit the shelves!

We are so excited to have the whole range of this wool in the shop. John Arbon Textiles is an independent family run business in North Devon founded 20 years ago by husband and wife team John and Juliet. Their small-scale worsted spinning mill is one of only a handful still operating in the UK. John himself blends and designs all the yarns his mill creates, drawing inspiration from the natural landscape in Devon or his interests in art, music and nostalgia. The lovingly restored vintage machinery used to process the wool and largely locally sourced fibres give their yarns a distinctly English feel with a unique twist.

Yarnadelic ‘Wondrous Place’, ‘Sunflowers in my Garden’, ‘English Sparrows’ and ‘Woman in Blue’ at Loop London

Yarnadelic is inspired by John’s cavernous record collection containing everything from punk to funk—he is not only a mill owner but also a DJ—and each colour in this range is inspired by a song. The colours themselves were crowd-sourced among the community at the Mill on an evening with a few bottles of wine with John spinning records. Each person wrote down the colour connotations the songs evoked and the carders took over from there! This line was originally launched in 2020 and has just become available to a limited number of retailers. We feel so lucky to be one of them!

Yarnadelic Melange colours: ‘Nobody Knows’, ‘Beautiful Ones’, ‘Hey Moon’ and ‘Badi Da’

John’s knowledge of wool, yarn, blending and of course music history is encyclopaedic, and his passion for the yarns he creates is evident in the JAT Vlog (below) celebrating the one-year anniversary of the yarn. If you need something to listen to while you knit, why not check out the SoundCloud Playlist of all the songs that inspired these colours?

John Arbon Textile’s Vlog all about Yarnadelic!

The 100% Falklands Corriedale wool behind Yarnadelic is dyed and then blended before being spun, giving the yarns and the garments they create a beautiful depth. Corriedale is known for a lovely balance of softness, lustre and bounce and the team at John Arbon Textiles has enhanced the wool’s natural stitch definition and drape using a rounded 3-fold structure, making it a perfect yarn to show off textured knitting.

Mae Cardigan designed by Marie Greene of Olive Knits. Yarnadelic in colour ‘Woman in Blue’

Yarnadelic is already a firm Loop favourite, and we have knit several samples with it in the shop. One of these is the Mae Cardigan designed by Olive Knits, and we are absolutely over the moon with how it knits up. Each colour has a beautiful range of melange shades with speckles of light and dark tones. And the wonderful squishiness of the yarn combined with the soft halo of the Corriedale fibres is evident in the Mae Cardigan sample with its crisp stitch definition and striking twisted stitch detail on the fronts and sleeves.

Sneak Peek!

Sneak Peek of Florence Spurling’s new design for Loop using Yarnadelic in 5 colours. We can’t wait to show you!

We are ecstatic to be working with the brilliant New York City-based British designer Florence Spurling to create a Yarnadelic pattern just for Loop. Texture is at the heart of much of Florence’s work, so this pattern is sure to shine. The full pattern will be released this autumn, but for now, a little teaser of what’s to come!

Soundwave Static Cowl kit

If you can’t wait to get Yarnadelic on your needles we’ve got just the thing for you. We’ve made a kit of the Soundwave Static Cowl designed by Loopette Fabienne Gassmann. This cowl plays with Yarnadelic’s musical origins, drawing inspiration from 1970s psychedelia and the crackling white noise you hear when tuning an analogue radio. Worked lengthwise in the round in stranded colourwork, this close-fitting cowl is a perfect accessory for autumn and a perfect way to play with Yarnadelic’s unique colours. For the kit Fabienne has used the colours ‘Sunflowers in My Garden’, ‘Pink Moon ‘ and ‘Beautiful Ones’ for a very “Loop” version in soft pinks, heathery neutral tones and golden yellow but the pattern would shine in any Yarnadelic hue if you’d rather order à la carte.

The optional ‘Static’ pattern on the inside of the cowl offers a meditative break from the larger-scale outside pattern and is just as beautiful and makes it completely reversible!

The pattern is available to purchase on its own through Fabienne’s Ravelry page.

New QuaintMarie Collection

The newest handmade QuaintMarie collection launches today, and we are so happy to see these beauties make their way into your homes! Marthess uses all-natural fibres, including Indian cotton, linen, vintage kimono fabric, woven textiles, vintage dress fabrics, and some not so obvious such as old bank money bags and coat collar linings to create each piece by hand. So much care and love goes into making these wonderful works of textile art. We also love that each horse and Lavender Lady has a name expressing a sentiment such as Justice, Perseverance and Wish. We hope you love them as much as we do.
