Beautiful gifts for makers

Beautiful gifts for makers

To say it’s been a challenging year is quite an understatement but in some ways it has given us a much needed perspective about what is really important in our lives.

Family, friends and wellbeing in general became a focus and learning new skills that nurtured our yearnings for deeper meaning and lasting connections helped us stay positive.

So, although this holiday season may look a bit different for many of us this year, it’s more important than ever to find ways of showing gratitude, sharing love and celebrating what truly matters.

This week we’ve put together a few ideas for every crafty person on your list.  From unique little haberdashery and stocking fillers to beautiful shawl kits with hand-dyed yarns as well as luxurious handmade shawls and accessories from Paris, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Embroidery gifts

From top left clockwise: Textiles Transformed, Linladan linen embroidery threads, Cohana mini snips and Teinture Sauvage wool embroidery yarn.

If you’re looking for textile inspiration, Textiles Transformed is one of the most beautiful books we’ve seen. Mandy Patullo demonstrates how found and cherished textiles can be used to create beautiful collages. On the topic of beautiful textiles, we also have more of the very special Mina Perhonen fabric swatch packs in the shop. Each one is a one-of-a-kind set and lovely for patching, visible mending or embellished stitching. We’ll be receiving stock regularly in the next few weeks so please keep checking if you’ve missed out on one.

Scissors are a tool every embroiderer needs. The Cohana mini snips are super tiny scissors, elegant but also sharp with a tiny silk tassel and a leather case for the blade.

From France, the Teinture Sauvage wool embroidery threads are naturally dyed and have been created in colour palettes specially for Loop. They come in a lovely hand-stamped box to keep your threads in.

The Nordiska Project linen embroidery threads from Linladan in our special Loop 10th anniversary box would make a wonderful gift for anyone who loves stitching.

From beginners needing to learn the very basics to seasoned knitters wanting a refresher on a complex technique, Vogue Knitting Ultimate Quick Reference is an indispensable reference guide.

Our Tiny Tassels shawl kit is the perfect gift for anyone new to knitting as well as the experienced knitter. The kit comes with all the yarn you need for the shawl, the cute little tassels and a printed pattern all wrapped up in a beautiful Loop Special Edition Anniversary cotton bag.

For one of our favourite needle brands, the ChiaoGoo complete set of interchangeable needles is indispensable. It comes in a beautiful case with 11 needle sizes and includes a range of cables, connectors, stoppers and stitch markers. For crocheters the Etimo Tulip Crochet Hook set is another gem including a range of hooks and tools in a pretty cotton case.

The Crepe Myrtle Wrap designed by Olga Buraya-Kefelian for Loop is a large and colourful, textured wrap using The Border Mill’s beautiful shetland wool North Coast Tweed. We have a few more kits available but you could also put this together yourself with the pattern and the yarn for a very special gift.

Haberdashery gifts

We just want to take a moment to say a big heartfelt thank you to all of you have bought something from our ‘schtickle for charity’ section online. We are thrilled to have raised £1062.00 so far for our local Islington Food Bank and Mind.org! Every little bit really does make a difference. We have recently added some wonderful new samples online which would make great presents as well! Please keep checking back as we’ll be adding new things now and then.

Holiday Hours

Although shops in London will be allowed to re-open after December 2nd, we feel that for the continued safety of both our customers and staff it is better for the shop to remain closed for the time being. We hope to be able to open for a long weekend in December sometime soon and will keep you posted as to when that might happen. Our online shop is still very much open as usual and we also offer ‘click and collect’ if you are able to swing by the shop.

We hope we’ve offered you some inspiration here. Happy stitching!

  1. I am a subscriber from the U.S.A. I just want to tell you what a spot of loveliness your blog is for me, and your shop must be utterly delightful! Though I can’t visit it, I am coming to treasure your offerings. I have a nephew who is shortly to marry a wonderful young woman in London, where they will both reside. My new niece is not a needle worker, but when you are open again, I hope to send them both in to acquire new knowledge and appreciation…and of course, to scope out special gifts for their “Auntie!” Stay safe, and carry on! Blessings, from across the waters!

    • Thank you Dana, that’s so nice to hear. We hope to welcome you and your family back into the shop soon. I’m sure we will find something to tempt them!
