Nothing but Blue Skies for Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok Light

Nothing but Blue Skies for Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok Light

It’s no secret that Blue Sky Fibers Woolstock is one of our favourite yarns, and soon we’ll need to make more room on the shelf as when sister yarn Woolstok Light launches next month.

Inspired by the craggy peaks of Peru where the highland wool behind Woolstok is sourced, this yarn is the progeny of generations-old spinning, dying, weaving and knitting inspiration. Woolstok Light doesn’t launch until the 1st of September but we’ve provided a very special sneak peak of the yarn and the colours our website here! It packs all the punch of the original worsted weight yarn in a fingering weight skein in 14 gorgeous tones, from versatile neutrals to vibrant pops of colour.

Blue Sky is also releasing some really exciting patterns to show off this new yarn in all its glory. We’re especially excited about the free Henrico Hat pattern from Blue Sky that we will email to anyone who buys a skein of Woolstok Light. One skein is all it will take to knit this hat with wide ribbed edge that turns into a meandering cable pattern. This is sure to be a favourite this autumn.

The Henrico Hat in Golden Meadow

Blue Sky Fibers has also been busy dreaming up a lovely selection of warm layering pieces using Woolstok Light that we can’t wait to get cosy in. The bold stripes of the Woolstok Light Wrap perfectly encapsulate the range of this new yarn as well as its delicacy while the Oakland Wrap uses some clever stitching for a braided effect that brings the yarn’s texture to new heights. And we have a sneaking suspicion the drop-shoulder Harrisburg Pullover will be one of those pieces we never take off. These patterns will all be available for purchase as PDFs on the Blue Sky Fibers website and Ravelry page on 1st September

Of course worsted weight Woolstok isn’t going anywhere and we won’t be turning our backs on this old favourite. The recently released Gresham Wrap pattern particularly caught our eye. Whether you want to wear it around your shoulders or use it as a throw, this oversized blanket shawl is a fun, colourful project. It plays with different textured stitches and makes the most of Woolstok’s range of 21 colours, and letting the knitter choose up to eight tones that can be mixed and matched to huge effect. If ever there were a piece to prove why this yarn is a mainstay in any stash, the Gresham Wrap is it.

Choose Loop, Choose Love

Image by Eugene Smith for The Family of Man exhibition from 1955. The photograph was one of 503 photographs from 68 countries for an exhibition created by Edward Steichen for the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). It was conceived as a manifesto for peace and the fundamental equality of mankind, expressed in the humanist photography of the post-war years.

The harrowing scenes of Afghans desperately trying to flee the Taliban left us saddened but resolved to help however we can. That’s why we’re fundraising for Choose Love, a brilliant organisation that works to help people fleeing war, persecution and climate change. Choose Love does so much good all over the world, sometimes at great personal risk. The money they raise helps provide sleeping bags, tents, hot meals, access to medical and legal support, and water and washing facilities to those who need it most.

This past Monday, 100% of our profits went directly to Choose Love’s campaign for Afghan refugees. Our donation from Monday amounted to £1,600! We so appreciate everyone who participated. We are continuing to fundraise through our Instagram profile over the next month (please note this fundraiser only works through the Instagram app, not the web version of Instagram). We hope those of you who are able will get involved in our fundraiser or donate directly to Choose Love!

Publications Galore

We’re excited about two publications launching on 1st September, both available for pre-order: The new issue of Making Stories magazine and the new Amirisu book, Sublation. Making Stories issue 6 celebrates the optimistic act of looking up. Its 12 patterns draw inspiration from the sky, clouds, buildings, trees and light. Sublation is this year’s collaboration between Amirisu and DARUMA yarns. Designers Alice Caetano and Fiona Alice drew inspiration from British fashion to create 11 pieces to knit for yourself or as a gift.

Our Scout Shawl class with Liz Baltesz sold out so quickly we’ve decided to add another session. Those who were unable to get a spot in our October class can now join us on Sunday 14th November for a tutorial on this gorgeous shawl. This class will be a great introduction to colourwork in general as well as to this specific pattern and participants will have the opportunity to buy a special Indigo-dyed kit put together by Liz herself.
