Brooklyn Tweed – Plains
A true one off, Plains is something extra special from Brooklyn Tweed. A breed specific, limited edition yarn created from a single-batch collaboration with Mountain Meadow Mill in Buffalo, Wyoming USA.
We know from their previous yarns Loft, Shelter and Quarry, Brooklyn Tweed take care and thought in choosing the fibre and production method of their wools. Plains takes this one step further, working with a woman-owned and family-operated spinning mill who are dedicated to contributing to the wool industry with fair prices and eco-friendly methods.
Spinning the yarn at Mountain Meadow Mill means that Rambouillet wool can be processed in the same county where the sheep roam. Plus, the perfectly composed ten colours were dyed courtesy of the organically certified Saco River Dyehouse, whose responsible methods ensure a sustainable practice.
And the result is Plains, a bouncy, worsted spun lace weight. The subtle twist gives stitch definition and the Rambouillet fleece is soft and springy with a slightly rustic texture.
Due to the origin of Plains this really is a one off – and when it’s gone it’s gone!
We’re so honoured that Brooklyn Tweed have shared this with us for – we hope you chose something for a truly special project.
And speaking of special projects, The Book of Haps by Kate Davies landed this week too! As well as the textile history of the hap this book is wonderful collaboration with many knitting greats such as Bristol Ivy and Hazel Tindall, who have designed their own interpretations of this traditional shawl.
There are also a few lace weight designs that we can see being a perfect match for the lofty drape of Plains!
To celebrate the arrival of Plains we’re giving you readers the chance to win a skein!
