Welcoming Town Dyer Naturally Dyed Organic Cotton yarns just for Loop!

Welcoming Town Dyer Naturally Dyed Organic Cotton yarns just for Loop!

We are so excited to have collaborated with our old friend Emma Kylmala of Town Dyer to bring a new bunch of naturally dyed yarns to the shop. A former Loopette who also worked as a shoe dyer for the Royal Ballet, Town Dyer combines Emma’s love of knitting with her love of natural dyes and the results are stunning.

Originally from Finland, foraging is in Emma’s blood, so naturally she finds inspiration in wild plants and things she grows in her London garden. Nettle, dock, wild chervil and Walnut leaves are among the flora contributing to a bouquet of delicate tones in this bunch, sometimes combined with Cochineal or Indigo.

This new, exclusive-to-Loop collection of Town Dyer Naturally Dyed Organic Cotton uses GOTS certified Krea Deluxe Organic Cotton as the base for 13 beautiful colours. Its GOTS certification means it is sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly at every stage of production. It also makes for a perfect pairing with Emma’s locally sourced natural dyes. From the sunset speckled Madder, Logwood & Cochineal to the misty sea morning of Oak Galls & Cochineal, there’s something here for everyone.

Krea Deluxe Organic Cotton is produced in Europe and sown, grown and harvested without the use of chemical pesticides or artificial fertiliser. This natural growth makes for longer fibres, producing a soft yet strong yarn that is perfect for baby blankets, toys, and clothes—especially for those suffering from allergies.

Mini Stripes cardigan by Pixen DK

Mini Stripes cardigan

One project we think would knit up really well in the Town Dyer Naturally Dyed Organic Cotton yarns is the Mini Stripes cardigan designed by Pixen DK. This baby cardigan is striped in two colours, offering an opportunity to indulge in more than one of Emma’s creations. Although not the exact same gauge as the CaMaRose Yaku this pattern was designed for, we think the colours and softness of the Town Dyer yarn will work wonders. Fit is not as crucial in baby clothes as it is in adult garments, meaning there’s usually a bit of wiggle room in the gauge.

More Krea Deluxe Organic Cotton

In addition to the naturally dyed Krea Deluxe by Town Dyer, we have a huge amount of the Danish company’s own extensive range of colours as well as their undyed Raw Organic Cotton. This unique colour palette has been developed in collaboration with dye specialists by the small, family-owned mill where the yarn is produced, resulting in a wide array of tonal accents. These are beautiful to use on their own and would also be easy to combine with the Town Dyer line in projects with more than one colour as the base yarns are the same. The Raw Organic Cotton is suitable for plant dyeing, so if you’re feeling inspired by Emma’s work, why not try it at home?

Eden Cottage Hand Dyed Yarns

As if there weren’t already enough yarns to get lost in, we’ve also received lovely hand dyed yarns from Eden Cottage. Hayton 4ply combines all the rich Eden Cottage colours with a soft base of 80% Merino/10% Cashmere/10% Nylon, and it can only be found at Loop. Titus Lace (formerly Theseus Lace) combines merino and silk for a shimmery, luxurious finish that’s perfect for a one-skein shawl. Many of these colours can’t be found elsewhere, so check out the shop in person or online for some unique treasures!
