Wonderful Happenings in the Woolly World of Loop!

Wonderful Happenings in the Woolly World of Loop!

It is such an exciting time here at Loop. The year is off to a fantastic start and we are looking forward to visits from some of our favourite creators in the coming months. Plus, with new shipments of incredible wool and some other goodies it’s a hive of activity around here!

To kick off a whirlwind of visits and classes, the incredible designer Sari Nordlund will visit the shop on Sunday 26 February from 1-2:30pm. We are totally in love with Sari’s Scandinavian minimalist designs inspired by the natural world around her home in the south of Finland and elsewhere in the Nordic countries. It’s such a treat to have her visit Loop and see her beautiful designs in person. Come find out more about her brilliant designs and inspiration ahead of her first book, which will be published this autumn! This event is free and open to all. Hope to see you there!

Learn to crochet at Loop

Then, in April, we’re so excited to welcome back the very first Loopette, Claire Montgomerie, who started working in the shop 17 years ago when we first opened! She will join us on two consecutive Saturdays, 8 and 15 April, to teach an all new Granny Squares Class and a Beginner Crochet Class. Both classes take place over the course of the two weekends for a total of six hours of tuition, with the Beginner Class in the morning and the Granny Square Class in the afternoon. The Beginner Class is suitable for absolute beginners, those who have struggled with crochet before, or those returning to the craft who need a little refresher course. Claire is a fantastic teacher and she’ll be able to help with whatever issue you may be having.

The Granny Square Class is intended for beginners who have a solid grasp on the basics and want to learn how to use their skills in new, fun, creative ways. This class will help you learn how to make different motifs using crochet and move from practicing stitches to completing projects. The teaching will focus on the “granny square” and some variations as well as learning crochet terminology and abbreviations so you can read patterns and charts.

Learn to knit in three weekday evening sessions.

We have also added more dates to our Beginner Knitting Evenings series taught by Linda Litchfield. This popular class is taught in series of three weekday evenings, and we’ve just added two more series. The first is 20 April, 27 April, and 4 May and the second is 11, 18, and 25 May.

What a treat — a second collection curated by the incredible Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée

And of course we would be remiss if we didn’t mention our much anticipated weekend with Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée at the end of April to celebrate the publication of her second collection, Neons & Neutrals. Both of the ticketed sessions have sold out, but Aimée will be in the shop on the afternoon of Saturday 29 April when the shop will be open to the public. You can preorder your copy of Neons & Neutrals now!

Ukraine Blanket Appeal — Thank You!

A big warm THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our blanket efforts in Ukraine. From the wonderful people at Hope Aid and Direct who have organised this campaign, to Trine of CaMaRose who donated yarn, to everyone who dropped off a square, to the volunteers and Loopettes who helped stitch them all together. We are so heartened by what we can achieve when we pull together as a community behind a good cause. We appreciate you so much!

The Whole Kit and Caboodle

There are few things we love more than a good kit, and we’ve made more of some of our favourites! The Soundwave Static Cowl Kit using John Arbon Textiles Yarnadelic has been a huge hit at Loop since we first launched it when Yarnadelic arrived in the shop, and we’re still finding more to love in this funky piece that draws on the musical inspiration behind the hues of this yarn. We’ve also make more Cloud Cardigan Kits, which have simply flown off the shelves since we first launched this pattern in January. It’s based on one of Susan’s favourite knits of all time, so you know it must be fabulous. Cuddly and cool, these knits will see you through the rest of the season — and well into spring!

ChiaoGoo A-Go-Go

Oh my what a bounty from ChaioGoo! This stalwart of the haberdashery world has always been a mainstay of our collection and we have some really fantastic new products. We have just received ChiaoGoo 4″ Bamboo SPIN Tips and 4″ Lace Tips, both of which can be used with other ChiaoGoo interchangeable sets, no matter what length of needle they were originally intended for. We’ve also just received Small and Complete sets of 4″ interchangeable ChiaoGoo TWIST Red Lace Interchangeable needles! These tips are slightly shorter than the 5″ ones, so they offer more portability without compromising comfort. The bamboo tips are also great for people who love ChiaoGoo’s reliability but prefer the feel of a wooden needle.

De Rerum Natura Delivery

De Rerum’s yarns are soft, muelsing free, and ethically and sustainably produced

We’ve had a HUGE delivery from De Rerum Natura of Gilliat, Ulysse, and Cyrano. We adore these yarns produced in France from European merino wool. De Rerum’s respect for the environment and for traditional farming practices is very admirable, and they even take care to make sure their dyeing process doesn’t negatively impact the water or the land. In three different weights and tons of colours, you’re bound to find just the right skein for whatever you’re casting on next.

The Knitting Barber Cords

A handy tool that’s also bright and colourful? Yes please!

Adding to the pizzazz are super bright TKB Stitch Holder Cords, which we’ve just restocked. These cords are just so fun and joyful to use and make holding stitches or trying on WIPs a total cinch. These hollow silicone cords slip onto the tips of your needles to make the process of slipping stitches as easy as possible. The cords can then be tied off until you’re ready to use the stitches again. Or if you’re only trying on it’s easy to attach both ends of the cord and simply let the stitches stretch around. Perfect for making sure you don’t lose stitches between knitting sessions if you’re working with very full needles, too!

The Stitch Festival — Discounted Tickets!

We are so excited that The Stitch Festival is coming to town from 23 to 26 March! This festival of all things crochet, sewing, knitting, dressmaking, embroidery, textile art, and needlecraft is always a dreamy few days. And we just love that it’s just up the street at the Business Design Centre in Angel, right near Loop, so you can swing by the shop as well! Don’t forget you can get discounted tickets if you use the code LOOPKNIT23 at checkout before 11:59pm on Wednesday 22 March. Unfortunately this code won’t work for child, VIP, or group tickets and won’t be valid for tickets on Sunday 26 March.

Knit well!
