Brand new La Bien Aimée Kumo and a giveaway
Wow! We are so thrilled to have received this amazing new yarn from La Bien Aimée!
Kumo is their newest, and softest and squishiest, base. It is incredibly lightweight, and the blend of Suri alpaca and silk makes it soft enough to wear next to your skin. We are giving away two skeins, one each to two different people, this week so read on to find out more!
Kumo is 74% Baby Suri Alpaca 26% Mulberry Silk, with approximately 300m/328yds per 50g skein. There’s plenty of yardage per skein to make something beautiful!
This is a laceweight yarn, and so can be used as a substitute for silk mohair yarns. Like silk mohair, you can use a wide range of needles, from around a 3mm all the way up to a 6mm!
You could knit it as a single strand, or hold it together with another strand of yarn to create a super cosy and fluffy garment.
Aimée of La Bien Aimée says:
Kumo 雲 stands for cloud in Japanese. Inspired by my recent travels to Japan, I felt inspired to bring an alternative fibre to our yarn line that will give you the feeling of wearing the lightness of clouds. This is a great yarn to hold together with any of our fingering weight bases to create a lusciously soft fabric for your shawls and garments.
We would recommend this yarn for sweaters, just imagine how soft they would be! See the list below for some great patterns to consider for your Kumo…
Love Note by Tin Can Knits
Ranunculus by Midori Hirose
No Frills Sweater by PetiteKnit
Cumulus Blouse by PetiteKnit
Copenhagen Cardigan by PetiteKnit
Birds of a Feather by Andrea Mowry
Blink – one of our favourite Loop patterns!
We’re so excited to have this yarn in store at Loop – we hope you love it as much as we do! As well as the Kumo, we got lots of Merino DK, Cashmerino, Mohair Silk and Merino Singles from La Bien Aimée – including new colours across all the bases!
We will also have this yarn with us at our pop-up in New York in November, so if you’d like to see and squish it in real life make sure to pay us a visit!
Now for our giveaway news…
We will be giving away two skeins of Kumo here on the blog, to two different people. They will both be the beautiful colour ‘Yellow Brick Road’, Aimee’s iconic colour. To enter here, just leave a comment on this post.
The giveaway will close Thursday 1st August, and we will announce the winners here on Friday 2nd August. Good luck everyone!
EDIT: This giveaway is now closed.
Just a note that from Sunday 28th July we will be taking a short break from Instagram, but our London and online shop will be open as always. You can always get in touch with us by emailing the shop at shop@loopknitting.com.
Lastly, we just want to mention that we are part of The Great London Yarn Crawl this year! This year their new format means that it will take place across a whole week, and Loop will be offering 10% to all participants, plus refreshments and treats. Have a look at The GYLC’s website to find out more information about all the participating shops, and to book your tickets!

The colour of the Yellow Brick Toad skein would go so so well with a skein of red-orange-brown sari silk I have. The two of them would make a great shawl, along with a more muted burnt colour. I’d love to be able to pair them up and get it going on my needles!
