A new shawl, a visit from a friend, an occasion for dressing up, and much more this season

A new shawl, a visit from a friend, an occasion for dressing up, and much more this season

It may not be winter yet, but with the clocks changing in London it certainly feels that way, and we’re giddy about all the things we have to look forward to. First of all, Andrea Mowry has a new shawl pattern out using Spincycle Yarns and we have not been able to get it off our minds.

The Inclinations Shawl celebrates texture and colour. Fisherman’s rib lends this piece its cuddly squishiness and the colour gradient makes it a perfect autumn-to-winter garment, starting out with fiery reds and oranges and resolving into deeper blues. This is one you’ll want to wrap up in whether you’re hanging out around the house or out on the go.

It’s an addictive knit too. Andrea says she finished must faster than she intended to because she was having so much fun watching the colours move and change, and we must say this looks like one of those knits that will have you saying “just one more row” into the wee hours.

All of the original colours of Spincycle Dream State Andrea used for this shawl are currently in stock in the shop and online, but really you can’t go wrong with any of Spincycle’s gorgeous tones. We also have a brand new colour of Spincycle Dream State and Dyed in the Wool called Absolute Zero. Its gradients of purple and brown could easily slot into the colour scheme of this shawl. If Dream State isn’t your bag, Andrea recommends as an alternative Malabrigo Rios, which we also stock in tons of colours. The pattern is available to purchase via Andrea’s Ravelry and website.

Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée at Loop!

We are so excited to welcome our old friend Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée to the shop! She will visit over the weekend of 4-5 December along with Jonna Hietala of Laine Magazine to celebrate the launch of her new book, Worsted. Details of the weekend’s festivities will be announced shortly. We can’t wait to host everyone! Aimée’s book is a collection of knits from top designers, all using La Bien Aimée Corrie Worsted. She hopes it will inspire knitters to try something new: “I hope that you will welcome the adventure of casting on a new project from this book with perhaps some of that beloved yarn you have curated for your stash or why not go on a yarn escapade and mix Corrie Worsted with other yarns.” Pre-order Worsted now!

The latest issue of Selvedge Magazine celebrates embellishment

The November/December 2021 issue of Selvedge Magazine is on our shelves and this one is a corker. This issue celebrates the joy of dressing up. From feathers to tulle, exaggerated shapes to over-the-top accessories, the way we adorn ourselves can tell us a lot about our historical moment. The editors of Selvedge argue persuasively here that the pandemic did not sound the death knell of extravagance.

Beechwood Umbrella Swift

Beechwood Umbrella Swift

This piece is as gorgeous as it is useful. Designed for use with a Ball Winder, this swift turns any hank or skein into a freshly wound ball in no time. Simply untwist your yarn, clamp the Beechwood Swift to the edge of a table, place your yarn around the opened umbrella, and wind away. Voilà! Beautifully wound yarn and no fear of mid-project tangles.

Mistletoe Garland Pattern

Loop’s mistletoe motifs as a garland, gift topper and brooch

If handmade decorations are on your list this year now is the time to start, and we’ve got just the thing for it. The free Mistletoe Garland crochet pattern designed by former Loop intern Erika Huesler is the perfect way to bring seasonal foliage to your holiday décor year after year. Join leaf and berry motifs on a chain to adorn your home or leave them as individual pieces for use as brooches or gift toppers. A few skeins of BC Garn Lino in neutral, green and red hues of your choosing (we used Ln33 beige, Ln60 dark green, Ln61 silver olive) will see you through. Happy decorating!
