Laine Magazine – new Autumn/Winter knits

Today brings us something we’ve all been very excited about – the launch of Laine Magazine issue 9! We love Laine Magazine and the women who create it; this week we’re looking at all the wonderful projects in the newest issue, and picking out the perfect yarns to go with them.

This is a fantastic issue, packing with lots of projects to keep your needles busy over the Winter months. There’s also some tasty seasonal recipes, a column by Jeanette Sloan, a travel guide to Munich, an interview with Lavanya Patricella, a long-format story about Petra Mikaelson of Fru Valborg, and a ‘My Story’ feature on Kristine Vejar from A Verb For Keeping Warm. All of this is accompanied by 13 knitting patterns, beautifully shot in the Finnish archipelago.

Now for the patterns! We don’t stock every yarn used in this issue, so where this is the case we have suggested an appropriate substitute.

Florea

These delicate mittens are knitted in a sport weight, we recommend Quince & Co. Chickadee – there are so many colours to choose from.

Joy

This cardigan would make a great staple piece; it calls for a heavy DK weight, so we would recommend either Harrisville Designs Nightshades, or Brooklyn Tweed Shelter to create a light, easy-to-wear fabric.

Lumi

This cosy jumper is knitted up in Brooklyn Tweed Loft, which we have plenty of in stock at the moment!

Miss Apple’s Little Cardi

Another great basic piece, with a steek (great for beginners to steeking!), knitted in a heavy DK weight held together with a lace weight silk mohair. We would recommend using Brooklyn Tweed Shelter or Harrisville Designs Nightshades for the base. The pattern calls for Ito Sensai for the mohair, which we stock at Loop, but we would also recommend Isager Silk Mohair if the Sensai doesn’t have the exact colour you’re looking for.

Mökki

This jumper looks set to become our favourite thing to wear with jeans for extra cosy days – we think it would be wonderful knitted in either Quince & Co. Owl or Blue Sky Fibres Woolstok. Both these yarns have a lovely heathered effect, like the original yarn used.

Pianta di Grano

A great 2-colour brioche wrap, with a pattern to mimic wheat. Lichen and Lace Merino Fingering would be perfect for this – their palette has both semi solid and variegated shades, so you can recreate the look of this cosy wrap.

Pinaceae

One of our favourite projects in this issue, this cabled jumper uses a rustic DK weight wool. We recommend either Eden Cottage Bowland DK, or Daughter of a Shepherd Heritage DK or Brume DK for a special subtle garment.

Ramsay

Another fantastic pattern from Whitney Hayward, this cosy jumper is knitted using Woolfolk Luft, in stock now at Loop!

Risttee

This colour work jumper is a special one; fair isle and texture accompany colour blocks in a 4ply weight. We would recommend CaMaRose Yaku to recreate the soft colours, and it has perfect yardage compared to the original yarn used.

Summer Longing

This breezy cardigan has a tricky yarn substitution; the yarn the pattern calls for is a DK weight linen and silk blend. To create a light and airy piece, choose CaMaRose Hverdagsuld.

Upplega

These sweet socks are good for using up leftovers (for the contrast colour), but to add fresh colours to your stash choose Life In The Long Grass Fine Sock or The Uncommon Thread Tough Sock – one skein of either of these yarns will make a pair of socks.

Winter Suns

What a beautiful shawl! Olga is a friend of Loop, and we’re so excited about this shawl, with clever slipped stitch colour work. It uses a 4ply for the main colour, and a DK weight for the contrasting suns. Try Quince & Co. Tern for the main colour (it will drape beautifully with its silk content), and Daruma Genmou for a soft and squishy pop of colour.

Woodbine

Fiona Alice’s chunky fluffy sweater definitely deserves its feature on the cover of issue 9. With clever construction and contrasting lace panels, this jumper could easily be dressed up for an evening out. It uses an aran weight yarn held with a lace weight silk mohair. We think it would be wonderful knitted up in either Quince & Co. Lark or Malabrigo Rios, held with La Bien Aimee Mohair Silk. There are so many colours to choose from within these colour palettes, you can choose something subtle, like the pattern, or make an amazing statement jumper in a jewel tone.

Wow! There are so many beautiful projects, it makes us wish we had unlimited knitting time!
