Meet the Maker: Autumn Fussell (aka dottie angel)

Our new Meet the Maker video is here! We have a lovely short film for you this week where you can ‘meet’ Autumn Fussell (aka dottie angel), of Curious and Coe! A friend to Loop for years, Autumn has taught at Loop both in our London shop and at our NYC popup and designed the Rosemaling Mitts that grace the cover of our 10th Anniversary book. We hope you enjoy this peek into her incredibly inspiring world and atelier as well as hearing her story. And keep on reading as we have a pattern round up from the newly released Making No. 9!

Autumn’s blogging ‘career’ started when she first moved to Washington in 2000. She fell in love with Etsy when it first launched, as it gave her a platform for her creativity. She started blogging around the same time, as the two seemed to go hand in hand, and that’s when dottie angel was born, with all of her fab bohemian outfits!

The idea for Autumn’s famous ‘woolly tattoos’ came about when she took a job at a local yarn shop (Tolt Yarn and Wool!) and wanted to be able to use all the colours and fibres, but she wasn’t completely a knitter. She took her knowledge of embroidery after being inspired by a Japanese book and set off using wool!

Autumn’s woolly tattoos feature in our Loop’s 10 book, to mark our 10th anniversary! Her Rosemaling Mitts are on the cover!

Autumn now owns and runs the Curious Atelier with her youngest son in Carnation, Washington. The atelier is sadly not open at the moment, but if you’re there in the future you should pay Autumn a visit! It is a beautiful shop and gallery space, which you can see in our Meet the Maker video. Autumn’s online shop for the Curious Atelier is open, and is packed full of goodies!

We have so many wonderful threads and wools for you at Loop to begin your own ‘woolly tattoo’ as well as Japanese embroidery books. We have restocked our Teinture Sauvage thread sets, so you’ll be able to get started! Mini skeins are also perfect for woolly tattoos, and we have just received more gorgeous minis from The Little Grey Sheep!

We are working on a kit with Autumn too for her ‘Somebunny’ crochet and woolly tattoo critters and hope to have these ready in early Autumn so watch this space as well as Curious and Coe of course.

Thank you to @curious.and.coe and to Richard Jung for another wonderful short film!

BT Apart Together

A reminder that today, 15th May, is the final day in the wonderful initiative from Brooklyn Tweed #ApartTogether where all of our Brooklyn Tweed yarns are 30% off. From Saturday 16th the prices will return to normal.

We want to thank Brooklyn Tweed and everyone who nominated us as their LYS when purchasing direct through Brooklyn Tweed or through us. This initiative has helped us, and other independent local yarn shops, enormously. Heartfelt thanks.
