Pick your summer projects from Laine and Pom Pom
June has arrived and summer is finally upon us! With June comes the recent release of two great new issues of independent publications – Laine Magazine issue 8 and Pom Pom Quarterly issue 29.
We’re dipping into these magazines this week, to bring you lots of ideas for summer knitting. with some of the many beautiful yarns stocked at Loop.
Flower Buds from Laine
This breezy little top is knitted using Isager Alpaca 1 and Biches & Buches Le Petit Lambswool held together throughout the project. This would be great over a vest top with trousers, or over a summer dress for a cooler evening.
Heather from Laine and Rookwood from Pom Pom
Both these lovely projects use the Natural Sock base from Woolly Mammoth Fibre Co., and both are wonderful lightweight accessories you can wear throughout summer and into the autumn.
Argil from Pom Pom
This top is worked up in Quince & Co. Sparrow – a 100% linen, for the main fabric, and Quince & Co. Tern – a wool/silk blend, for the contrasting stripes. These two staple yarns combine to create a modern top that you’ll be able to wear over and over through the summer.
Rosebay from Laine
This beautiful lace wrap is knitted in Brooklyn Tweed Loft. It combines spring-like lace stitch patterns with delicate cables. This is a great one for wearing around your shoulders – the Loft is light and airy, but will also keep you nicely warm in an evening, and isn’t too heavy to knit with when the weather is hot.
Grace from Laine
This beautiful little jumper is knitted in Quince & Co. Puffin, a popular yarn at Loop. Yes, Puffin is very chunky and so not a classic summer knit, but this is a wonderful ‘instant gratification’ project – a great antidote to the fine, lightweight yarns normally knitted with over the summer.
Once autumn rolls around, Grace will be ready to pop over dresses and blouses!
There are two more projects we want to talk about; even though we don’t stock the specific yarns used in the pattern, we have almost identical substitutes!
Honeydew from Laine
This beautiful textured jumper would be amazing knitted up in La Bien Aimee Cashmerino (of which we will receive a delivery next Tuesday, to join the La Bien Aimee Silk Mohair that just arrived!), and Isager Silk Mohair. The yarns are held double throughout. How about using Kitsume and 28 Coral together for a pop of colour?
Minton from Pom Pom
This amazingly detailed crocheted market bag can easily be worked up in the BC Garn Lino – a 100% linen 4ply yarn that softens wonderfully with wear and use, and has brilliant bright colours too!
Just a note to say that if you plan on substituting any yarns, remember to check your gauge and yardage requirements!
Enjoy your summer knitting! We can’t wait to start seeing these projects out ‘in the wild’, and don’t forget you can get your new issues of Laine and Pom Pom from us now!
