Welcoming Cloud Fingering, The Uncommon Thread’s Dreamiest Base Yet

Welcoming Cloud Fingering, The Uncommon Thread’s Dreamiest Base Yet

This week we’re welcoming a stunning new addition to our coveted collection of The Uncommon Thread yarns. It’s fluffy, it’s alpaca, the colours sing, and it’s totally wonderful!

Uncommon Thread Cloud Fingering is a totally fabulous yarn from one of our favourite British yarn companies. It’s been dyed for Loop in a fantastic array of twenty-five beautiful, bright tones as well as some above-and-beyond neutrals.

Alpaca is a great fibre to work with for so many reasons, and this yarn in particular is great as a substitute for mohair for those who are allergic. Cloud Fingering has all the soft, fluffy loft of a wispy mohair and the difference in the fibre makes all the difference for people who find mohair itchy but don’t have an issue with other natural materials.

The Uncommon Thread is an artisanal yarn company based in the south of England. Founded in 2010 at the kitchen sink, all Uncommon Thread yarns are still dyed by hand and they do everything they can to protect the environment throughout the production process, from only working with mulesing-free farms to mailing everything in 100% biodegradable shipping materials.

Beneath the fuzzy halo of Cloud Fingering is a cotton core that doesn’t pick up the dye, giving it a cool almost shimmery effect. This yarn has the same gauge as any other fingering yarn and is totally fine to stand on its own in a sweater or hat pattern, or any other pattern that calls for fingering-weight yarn. It can also be knit on much larger needles for an airy, lacy effect. Because of its softness, we think this yarn is best for garments worn near your face, like the  Sophie Scarf by Petite Knit, the Amos Balaclava by Sari Norlund, the Milli Kerchief by CocoKnits – all great one-skein projects, and many other cowl and shawlette patterns

Folk Doll Kits

Make your own Americana-inspired doll with Anne Kelly’s Folk Doll Kit

We’ve been dreaming up something very special with Anne Kelly and there’s no better time than Thanksgiving week to share it with you. Our new Folk Doll Kits are classic Americana, inspired by the treasured toys of children on the prairies and in the Spanish colonial southwest of the US. These little companions would have been made from scrap fabrics and other found items, and our kit retains that feeling with plain cotton to make the body with vintage fabrics and other lovely bits to create a totally unique character. All you need to have is some stuffing material and a needle! This would also be a very fun project for an adult to work on with a child in those lovely days between Christmas and New Year.

Be Happy Papier Mâché Box

These sweet boxes with a thoughtful message are perfect to keep for yourself or give to a loved one

These wonderful boxes based on 1700s Bilston and Battersea enamel boxes from the Monahan Papers studio are darling and perfectly sized for haberdashery bits, little mementos, or smaller pieces of jewellery. The Be Happy Papier Mâché Box would really make beautiful gift boxes as well — a gift in themselves, plus whatever special treat you decide to tuck inside. And it’s a real time saver amid busy holiday schedules as virtually no further wrapping is needed! Maybe just pick up a beautiful ribbon and you have a beautiful package to put under the tree.

More Pinwheel Mitts!

Our ever popular Pinwheel Mitts!

The Loopettes have been hard at work putting together more Pinwheel Mitt Kits and they’re in the shop now! We know these are a real favourite so we’re always happy when we can share them. These are fabulous all year round and a lovely addition to your winter wardrobe as well.

Meet Us Under the Mistletoe Garland

While others celebrate “Black Friday”, we at Loop are still feeling the warm, happy vibes of Thanksgiving, a real favourite around here. As many of you know, we love being able to give back in big ways and small. And as our little token of joy that we hope all of you can share, we’re so pleased to remind you that one of our favourite festive patterns is available for free. The crocheted Mistletoe Garland made with BC Garn Lino yarn is always a huge hit over the holidays and it can be used in so many different ways — to decorate your home, to wrap gifts, or even to wear on your lapel. We hope it helps make your season bright, and we hope if you’re shopping today you’ll support some of your local small businesses!

Have a lovely weekend!
