Lilith at Old Maiden Aunt has dyed up some wonderful new yarn colours for us. There are eight new colours in all, including two very wearable yellows (something we have been short on, until recently). This is one of my favourite yarns and she has now dyed my favourite colour, Ghillie Dhu, which is a lovely chartreuse green. I don’t know if I can justify yet another shawl in this colour. Misti Alpaca sock in Cerise and Birds in Paradise

We’ve carried Peace Love Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Sock yarns for a while. They have great colour striping combinations. One of my favourite pairs of socks is knit in this yarn. It’s just a simple slip stitch pattern but it looks so effective in any heavily variegated yarn. (It was originally written for one of Madelinetosh’s more stripy yarns. The pattern is called Slippery Sock). The Alpaca makes them my warmest pair of socks. They are also incredibly hard wearing,  although they are strictly hand-wash only. Dye For Yarn in Smashed Blackberry

Dye for Yarn is a new indie yarn at Loop. We are the first shop to carry this fingering weight yarn, which is dyed in Germany, and made from 75% Merino Superwash and 25% Mulberry Silk. This is a new venture for us since it is the first time we are carrying a yarn in non-repeatable colours. Up until now, we have always insisted that dyers supply us with yarns colours that we can re-order. We have all the colours of Quince & Co, that we got into stock, loaded on our web pages now. Not all the colours, have come in yet. Apparently, they can’t dye fast enough to keep up with demand. I’m having trouble taking pictures, quickly enough, of all our new yarns! Last week this Sarah Tweed from BC Garn came in. Squeals of happy-knitter delight all down Camden Passage. It’s made up of 50% mulberry silk (which takes dye colour beautifully), 10% silk nubs (natures own nupps), and 40% wool. It has a lovely texture, unlike any yarn I’ve seen before. Okay we got a bit excited about the Kozmos and Pearl combo, and knit up a shawl.  Susan adapted the Lala Scarf, from Greetings from Knit Cafe, into a shawl, by making it a little longer. She needed just under one skein of the Juno Pearl in Golden Peach and 1.5 skeins of the Alchemy Kozmos in Old Rose. We figure she could just as easily have made the edging a little less flamboyant and got it out of one skein, as it is in the book. Pretty, huh? Back in the autumn we got a few skeins of Alchemy Kozmos. We didn’t get that many, because they were pricey, and we weren’t sure how well they would do. But they got snapped up pretty quickly, so we ordered more. Loop is having a bake sale, March 26th – 27th, to raise money for the Japanese Red Cross.
